SKILL 07 / FISHING

KEEP IT SIMPLE.
READ THE WATER.
MAKE THE NEXT CAST COUNT.

Fishing gets complicated fast if you let it. Start with a few dependable presentations, learn what the water is telling you, and make adjustments instead of constantly changing everything.

Start With The Fundamentals

BUILD THE SYSTEM

01

BASIC SETUP

Use a rod, reel, line and tackle combination suited to the species and cover you expect. Confidence with a simple setup beats carrying everything.

02

READ WATER

Look for shade, vegetation, structure, current changes, depth transitions and signs of bait. Fish relate to habitat for a reason.

03

PRESENTATION

Depth, speed, angle and retrieve can matter as much as lure choice. Change one variable at a time so you learn from each cast.

Practical Field Skills

WHAT TO PRACTICE

FIVE-BAIT MINDSET

Carry a small group of proven lure types you know how to fish instead of a box full of unfamiliar choices.

KNOTS

Learn a small number of dependable fishing knots and tie them well. Check line and knots after snags or abrasion.

HANDLE & RELEASE

Use appropriate handling for the fish and situation, minimize unnecessary time out of water, and follow local regulations.

🎣 SHAUN'S FIELD NOTE

Gear helps, but familiarity matters more. Practice this skill when conditions are easy so you aren't trying to learn it for the first time when conditions aren't.

Avoid The Usual Traps

COMMON MISTAKES

01

Changing lures every few casts.

02

Ignoring depth and retrieve speed.

03

Fishing memories instead of current conditions.

04

Using damaged line or poor knots.

05

Carrying too much tackle to stay organized.

06

Forgetting current licenses and regulations.

REWYLD FIELD CHALLENGE

TAKE THE SKILL OUTSIDE.

Take only a small selection of confidence baits on your next outing. Fish each deliberately and note where, how and under what conditions you get bites.

MORE TACKLE ISN’T THE ANSWER.
BETTER DECISIONS ARE.

Learn the skill. Practice it safely. Then take it outside.

STAY WYLD.
